About Me.
Hello! Now then, If you have stumbled this far you will have probably worked out that my name is Benjamin John Ellerby and I am a professional freelance artist and Illustrator, specialising in Digitally produced Art and Design work. I am a Yorkshire born and bred lad, based in my home town of Sheffield.
Art has always been my passion, especially portraiture. It was always my favourite subject at school and I loved doodling and creating things from a very young age. My pencil portraits of myself and friends drawn by me aged eleven years old, impressed my art teacher so much, she wanted to keep them for herself.
After receiving an A grade in Art, I then then went to Art College where I did an BTEC National Diploma in Fine Art and Design and attained distinctions throughout my two years, whist becoming more interested in design. Three years later I received my BSc (Hons) from the University of Huddersfield, where I studied design and the print process with printed textiles.

My artistic development was informed by my studies of printing methods, both in the print room and on the computer. I use a hybrid of traditional and modern techniques, utilising drawings, paintings, and computer-based illustration tools. I cover a variety of subject matter with my work including animals, cityscapes, children's art, typography and graphic design.
Design and print have played a major part in my career – working as a Graphic Design & Display Artist which entailed web design, branding, advertising, visual merchandising and display. Meanwhile my own artistic skills were honed in my spare time and I started to accept commissions.
I have completed a number of commissions, and I still like experimenting, as an artist, with different styles and mediums, hence the variety of themes in my work.
Since then I have enjoyed moderate success. I have had illustrations printed in magazines, sold works all over the world from Australia to Canada. I have been commissioned to create brands and logos, marketing material for both print and on the web, posters, greetings cards and traditional pencil portrait commissions. I have also turned my hand to book covers amongst other things.

My work is inspired by the vintage and retro, pop culture, advertising design, and iconography. I love all things creative, finding new inspiration, doodling, Yorkshire, dogs (especially Dachshunds) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
My artwork can be found in the rooms at The Yorkshire Hotel in Harrogate and The Grantham Arms in Boroughbridge, both in the district of North Yorkshire.
My work can be purchased via my SHOP and can also be found in The Great Yorkshire Shop in Leeds, Utterly Yorkshire in Huddersfield, Out of the ORDinary in Skipton, The Whitby Shop in Whitby and Boggle Hole in Northallerton and Harrogate.
